Bithiophene-Imide-Based Polymeric Semiconductors for Field-Effect Transistors: Synthesis, Structure‚ąíProperty Correlations, Charge Carrier Polarity, and Device Stability

Synthesized 4,4’-didodecyl-2,2’-bithiophene (2b), and a similar compound 4,4’-dihexyl-2,2’-bithiophene (dhexbTH) following the procedure for the synthesis of 2a and 2b (given in supporting info.).

The yield for the synthesis of pure 2b was 50 %, which is very similar to the literature value.

The crude product obtained for the synthesis of dhexbTH was a pale yellow oil and was purified by vacuum distillation. The final percent yield of the reaction was 38 % with the starting material, 3-hexylthiophene recovered as the major impurity.
